Seven Network look to take back the lead with No.72

September 29th, 2009

According to an article in today’s Australian, the Seven Network are gearing themselves up for a late entry in this year’s TV ratings race, “The Seven Network is expected to unveil its new free-to-air digital channel on November 22nd”.

Seen as many as a last minute attempt to make up for lost ground to main rival GO!, it is still unknown what the new channel will be officially called or what programming formula will be used to drive it. According to the Australian, it has been confirmed that David Leckie (The Seven Network’s CEO) gave race organisers and official “ratings provider OzTAM formal notice of the launch last week”.

The Seven Network will hope that by launching their second channel on the 22nd of November, they will enjoy one final lap (perhaps a victory lap) before the ratings race officially ends on the 28th of November.

Following today’s article, our good friends over at TVTonight (David Knox & Crew) have reported that “several media buyers had been briefed informally about a general entertainment channel that would feature programs previously shown on Seven, such as Ugly Betty and 24, as well as blocks of younger-skewed programming provided by Disney”.

For now we will refer to this new entrant as ‘channel 72′, but stay tuned for an official unveiling in the coming weeks.

As always, IceTV will closely monitor the launch of Seven’s second digital channel and start to provide our own listings within the IceTV EPG shortly after.
