IceTV Wins Court Case!

Breaking News… IceTV wins Case against Channel Nine!!!

Justice Annabelle Bennett has this morning ruled in favour of IceTV in the case brought against IceTV in May 2006 by the Nine Network in the Federal Court of Australia. Nine had claimed that IceTV’s electronic program guide infringed copyright in its television schedule.

In a convincing win, the whole of the Nine Network’s application was dismissed, with the court finding that IceTV did not and does not in any way breach Nine’s copyright in creating its IceTV Guide, which is an “independent compilation” built using IceTV’s own proprietary methodology and software applications.

IceTV’s General Manager, Matt Kossatz said “It’s been a long wait and we are obviously very pleased with the outcome. We remained confident in our position and have always contested Nine’s claim”.

He then went on to say “Today’s decision is not only a win for a small Aussie owned media company, but more importantly a win for Aussie consumers. We will continue to expand our service, offering consumers more choice and greater freedom and we look forward to playing an integral part in driving the uptake of digital TV in Australia.”

The judgment is expected to be made publicly available by the end of the week. To see a copy of Her Honour’s Summary of Findings please ‘click’ on the PDF below;
